The Calgary Herald is reporting that it is a popular and lucrative market for van rental companies.
The industry is growing quickly in Calgary and is also a popular destination for families looking for affordable van rentals in the region.
The Herald has obtained emails between rental companies that showed many companies were willing to negotiate with the Herald in exchange for favorable rates.
The emails, obtained under the Access to Information Act, reveal that at least three rental companies were actively courting the Herald.
“We will work with you to bring you the best possible rate,” one rental company wrote.
The other two rental companies offered to rent out their vans for a low rate.
One company told the Herald they were willing “to provide our customers with a discount.”
The Herald obtained emails that show one of the companies contacted the Herald with an offer of $50 for each month of rental.
The email said the company would then pay $10 per month for each rental.
It’s unclear how many companies actually contacted the paper to negotiate.
The Alberta government’s Department of Taxation and Business Services has declined to comment on whether they have an official position on the matter.
